Mount Oliver Hook & Ladder Company was established in 1869, serving over 140 years of fire protection and prevention. We service the only borough in the United States that is completely surrounded by a major metropolitan city, Pittsburgh, PA. As well as our first due area, our department runs mutual aid responses into Baldwin Boro, Baldwin Twp, Brentwood, Pleasant Hills, Homestead, and West Mifflin. With over 100+ years of firefighting experience within the current Line Officers, and the dedication of all of our members, we continue to provide a high quality of service to our residents, visitors, and neighbors. Our department can proudly say we are now a reconized Bronze Level Participating Department in the state of Pennsylvania meaning over 50% of our active members are certified as Firefighter 1 or 2.
Currently, we have 35 ACTIVE FIREFIGHTERS, 2 JR/PROBATIONARY members, as well as several social members. Of those 35 active members, we have 19 certified at Firefighter 1, 7 Firefighter 2's, 15 BVR Technicians, 17 R.I.T. certified, 2 paramedics, 5 EMT's, 9 EMS First Responders, 3 Hazmat Technicians, and 28 FF's at the Hazmat Operations level. All active firefighters are required to attend and pass the Essentials of Firefighting Course and our drivers are E.V.O.C. certified through the PA State Fire Academy. We pride ourselves by training in several areas of firefighting such as Rapid Intervention, Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Structural Fire Rescue, Structural Collapse, Hazmat, EMS, E.V.O.C., FF survival, Eng/Trk/Pump Ops, NIMS training, and many more.
